What are some of the optional features and productivity tools available?

Your XO Web Site Hosting account contains a variety of optional tools and features that enhance the value of your site and improve your productivity. Here are some of the more popular tools:
  • Online reports - the XO® Gateway provides numerous online reports that provide the account administrator with a hands-on view on all aspects of your hosting account. Most reports must be enabled before they can be viewed. These reports include:
    • Billing Summary - This provides a real-time summary of the current month's charges, including any add-on purchases made. This can be reached by clicking the Menu Map → Account → Billing → Billing Estimate (when logged in)
      .
    • Quota Summary - This summarizes your account's usage of disk space and Web site traffic versus your allocated amount in your account plan. You can see this report on the XO® Gateway in the upper left corner under Account at a Glance.
      In Account at a Glance, there are two graphs; one which shows Site Traffic this Month -- a measure of how much data has been moved in and out of your Web site, and Disk Usage -- a measure of how much data is stored on our servers for your Web site.
    • Disk and Traffic Reports - These provide a greater level of detail of your account's usage of these resources than the Quota Summary.

      These reports must be enabled before being viewed. Click Menu Map → Logs → Logging Controls (when logged in). On this page you can select the type of reports you want by checking the box next to the name of the report, then click Update Settings. Please review the Web Site Logging FAQs for more information.

    • Analog Analysis - This tool, which is also found on the Menu Map → Logs → Logging Controls (when logged in) page mentioned above, lets you view statistics on the number of hits on your site. Please review the Analog analysis FAQs for more information.

  • Dial-up access - Administrators can easily set up Internet dial-up access for any user ID in the account. See the Account Settings FAQs for more information. This is a billable option at $19.95/month during the month that the dial-up is used. XO Web Site Hosting offers nearly 800 local dial-up numbers across the US. Use Menu Map → Help Center → Search → Access Numbers (when logged in) to see the closest dial-up number to your location. (Please note that you are responsible for any toll charges to connect from your location to the dial-up number.) Another valuable dial-up feature is 800 dial (billable at the rate of $0.10/minute) for users not close to one of our access numbers. This number may be used anywhere in the continental US.

  • Email Distribution Lists - Administrators may create group mailing lists within their domain for sending email messages to more than one recipient. This handy feature allows one to send a message to up to 250 recipients in one message. Please review the Distribution Lists FAQ, particularly the restrictions on using these lists to send unsolicited email, otherwise known as spam or junk mail.

  • Perimeter Email Protection - PEP is for businesses that want to protect their on-premises emailserver(s). Some of the features include:
    • Spool and Deliver
    • Email Shield
    • User Validation
    • Protection against, spam and other junk mail, viruses, worms, and trojan entering via email, phishing and other fraud attacks, email server outages and overloads, denial of service and directory harvest attacks.
    • Flexibility - You can set up your lines of protection around your entire account or tune them for individual users.

  • Junk Mail Filtering - The XO® Web Site Hosting Junk Mail Filter analyzes an incoming email to see if it contains content that tends to be indicative of Junk Mail. This method goes beyond simple address and topic checking to analyze the actual content of the email message based on various factors.

    The Junk Mail Filters will not destroy email contents, attachments or otherwise harm messages. No human will review your messages — it is all done with software.

    Once an email has been identified as Junk Mail, the message can then be handled in various ways including: Routing to a JunkMail Folder; marking the message as Junk Mail for your email software to handle according to your email software settings; and/or routing to a special email folder in your POP3 email software.

  • Domain aliasing - Also known as domain pointers or domain forwarding, this popular feature allows administrators to direct more than one domain name to their Web site. This is handy for companies that merge or change names. Domain aliases are available for $5.00/alias/month, not including domain registration charges. (You may create a domain alias and register the domain, if available, at the same time via Menu Map → Domain → Aliasing (when logged in).) Please review the Domain Aliasing FAQs for more details.

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - A complete database software platform providing enterprise-class data management. The SQL Server 2005 database engine provides more secure, reliable storage for a relational database format and XML.   • Virtual Dedicated Environment - the VDE is a breakthrough in shared server platforms that provides unparalleled performance and freedom for Web site development. With VDE you can write your own Common Gateway Interface (CGI) scripts without pre-approval from XO® Web Site Hosting.   • Application Wizards - The wizards described here give you a simple way to install selected features in your account. Some of these are Open Source applications and others are XO® Web Site Hosting supplied scripts. All require that CGI access is available and set to use CGI Anywhere, which will allow CGI scripts that you write or install to run from /web and /secure-web in addition to the /cgi directory.

    They include e-commerce tools; Zen Cart, osCommerce, Communication Tools; PHP-Nuke, phpBB, WordPress, MediaWiki, CGI scripts; Message Board, Survey, form2mail, form2file, Gen-Form, Search, Sharing Tools; DAlbum, PHP, iCalendar, Coppermine, Business Tools; phpMyAdmin.
